In 1925, the Lincoln Hills Company began advertising and selling land near Rollinsville, Colorado in Gilpin County. The resort provided the opportunity for African Americans to own homes in the mountains and participate in outdoor recreation. The largest structure at Lincoln Hills was Winks Lodge built by Wendall "Winks" Hamlet as a lodge for African American vacationers wanting to enjoy the Rocky Mountain experience. The Girls Reserve, a group stemming from the African American YWCA, had a summer camp at Lincoln Hills, called Camp Nizhoni. The majority of Lincoln Hills lots still belong to the descendants of the original owners.
