He graduated from Yale University (1898); served with 1st Regiment of Connecticut Volunteers Field Artillery during Spanish American War (1898); attended Harvard and University of Colorado schools of law (1899-1901); admitted to Colorado Bar (1901); private practice (1901--1918); Jefferson Co. attorney (1911-1914); U.S. Congressman from Colo. (1918-1927). Vaile died in Estes Park, Colo. on July 2, 1927.
