The Smaldones were an organized crime family based in Denver, Colo. (1930s-1990s), established during prohibition by two sons of a North Denver grocer and bootlegger, Raffaele "Ralph" Smaldone. Eventually five of the six Smaldone brothers: Clyde, Eugene, Anthony, Charles, and Clarence Smaldone participated in running the families gambling and bootlegging operations. The collection contains 26 taped interviews and 26 transcripts, conducted by Dick Kreck in 2007 with members of the Smaldone family, friends, associate and police force in preparation for writing his book. A 1992 transcript of an interview of Clyde Smaldone by his son, Gene, is included.
