The collection contains correspondence and personal papers related to the Meeker family and Nathan Meeker's establishment and running of the Union Colony of Colorado (1847-1922). Of special interest is the correspondence received by Meeker from Horace Greeley (1850-1872) concerning the financial and administrative operations of the colony. Microfilm reels contain additional papers found at the Greeley Municipal Museum, Greeley, Colo. including Meeker family correspondence (1843-1897) and the Union Colony of Colorado land records, correspondence, court records, scrapbooks and news clippings (1870-1951).
Collection also available on microfilm: Mflm 58 reel contains 275 documents: correspondence of Nathan Meeker, Arvilla Meeker and Ralph Meeker is arranged into six groups. A seventh group includes original letters as well as excerpts, notes and transcriptions from letters written by early Union Colonists, in which they describe their experiences. The seven groups are identified by header sheets on the microfilm reel (Greeley Municipal Museum, Greeley, Colorado). Mflm 144 reel includes Union Colony of Colorado land sales records, Weld County, Colorado and Union Colony of Colorado court records and a scrapbook of newspaper clippings and memorabilia relating to the Union Colony of Colorado and to Weld County (Greeley Municipal Museum, Greeley, Colorado).
