William J. "Bill" Hosokawa was a journalist, editor, author and lecturer. He was born in Seattle, Wash. on January 30, 1915 and graduated from the University of Washington in 1937 (B.A., Journalism). Hosokawa worked on English language newspapers in Singapore and Shanghai before returning to the United States in 1941. He was a founder of the Japanese American Citizens League (JACL), a group that served as an intermediary between local government and area residents. During World War II, Hosokawa and his family were incarcerated at Heart Mountain Relocation Center in Wyo. (1942) and then moved to Des Moines, Iowa (1944) where he worked as a copy editor on the Des Moines Register. He later moved to Denver, Colo. (1946) and served as the editor with The Denver Post newspaper. Hosokawa died on November 9, 2007 in Sequim, Wash.
