Betsy Stephens (born 1955) co-founded and led the Durango/Four Corners Chapter of Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) following the passage of Colorado's Amendment 2 in 1992. In the wake of the murder of ǹdleehi/two spirit youth Fred Martinez Jr in Cortez, Colorado in June 2001, she joined the Board of Families United Against Hate (FUAH), based out of Seattle, Washington. Working closely with the Four Corners Alliance for Gay and Lesbian Diversity (4cGLAD) and the Fort Lewis College Gay, Lesbian Bisexual Association (FLC GLBA), she designed and edited the "LIFELINE" newsletter until her relocation to Denver in 2003, where she joined the boards of PFLAG Denver and the Colorado Coalition of PFLAG Chapters. After retiring from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) in 2017, she splits her time between between Denver, Colorado and Whakatαne, New Zealand, where she designs and edits the newsletter for the Eastern Bay of Plenty Labour Branch.
