Denver Olympic Committee organized in 1967. Denver, Colo. was originally selected to host the 1976 Winter Games. In 1972 the residents of Denver and the state of Colorado expressed unwillingness to host the games through a city plebiscite and a state referendum. The games were awarded to Innsbruck, Austria, which had been the site of the 1964 Winter Olympics.
